It's a Skateboard Scooter kind of Party

A few months ago Benton and I started talking about his birthday party. For a while he wanted a tool party. We picked up some hammer and screwdriver cookie cutters and started planning the party. Then out of the blue Benton changed his mind and wanted a scooter party, and then soon after added skateboards.

Since the yogurt bar was such a hit at Emmett's we decided to have it again, that way the kids can eat something that is somewhat healthy before stuffing their faces with ice cream cake. Seriously how awesome is ice cream cake anyway, so much easier than making a gazillion cupcakes.

We played pin the wheel on the scooter. I had an idea of playing musical scooters.... but then I pictured what a bunch of three year old's running to get the last scooter would look like, and that's why we didn't play it! haha.

Benton picked out his cake at Dairy Queen. He wouldn't even let me show him any other options after he saw this cake. It took all the restraint he had to wait until his party to put the skateboards on it. He loved his cake, and skateboards.

I love this last picture. Benton and the other kids are anxiously looking into the bag to see what the next present will be while Emmett sneaked over and found the pile of previously opened presents. Way to go Emmett! And happy birthday Benton!

Washing Motorcycles and Things Like That

A couple weeks ago, as in last month, we had a rare, warm clear day. And since we hadn't washed our car in, um, let's just say a long time, we decided to do it that day. Benton of course loved to help Dallin any way he could. Spraying the car with the hose, washing the tires, filling up the bucket, you name it. After we finished Dallin took the car around the block to dry it off the fast way. This is how I found Benton 2 minutes later.

Emmett woke up and wanted to join in the water fun so we brought out the water table. They both loved playing with it, I mean who wouldn't?!

For Easter we snapped a little family photo. These boys are sure handsome!

Waldron Wedding

On March 23rd Brent and Janessa became Mr. and Mrs. Waldron. I was happy to be a part of their special day by doing their flowers. It has been a while since I have done a wedding so it was really great to be able to work with them again. Like I mentioned before, I was able to help with more than just the flowers. It was so great to have the opportunity to create things that I otherwise wouldn't since I don't really have a need for them. It pushed me to open my eyes and just be creative. So here are a few (a few, ha! I should say a ton) of pictures from that day. I am fully aware that most people will just look at the pictures so I will say that the overall look of the wedding was vintage, we used a lot of burlap and lace. I loved the combination of the two.

Let's start with the entrance to the reception. There were 6 hooks outside with some fresh flowers on them as you were walking up to the door.

Melody, the bride's mother, used large white pitchers all around the room as vases, they were adorable and pretty easy to design in too. The W is a wooden letter covered in burlap, I loved it and almost kept it for myself! Haha, I guess I can always just make another one right?

 photo IMG_4499_2_zps535c7d1a.jpg

Inside the room we had a few signs on the food tables and on the walls. For the food tables I covered a number 10 can in burlap and lace, filled it with cement and stuck the sign in it. So easy! Adding some flowers to them to made them look even nicer. Unfortunately by the time I had two minutes to snap some pictures of inside the reception the lights had been dimmed so they are a little dark. I used some photos at the end of this post that someone else took when the lights were on that are lighter.

This cake is so sweet. I love it. We added some little pink spray roses and wax flower to keep the simple beauty of it.

Here are a few more arrangements we placed around the room. I never counted how many there were but I am thinking it was something like 25. We had flowers everywhere! It made the room smell so lovely.

 photo arragements_2_zpsd5c8987f.jpg

For the arrangements around the room we used white and blue flowers. On the tables they decided to use white with a little touch of pink. Each table had 7-8 vases of varying styles and sizes. Some vases were blue, some were wrapped in lace, burlap, burlap and lace, blue burlap, or jute. We also used a little white pitcher one each table. Every centerpiece was a little different. There were 12 tables in the room, which meant there were about 90 vases on the tables.

For the tables we used white tablecloths and added a burlap runner. Melody had the idea of placing the lace on top to soften the feel so I picked up three different kinds and cut them the width of the runner. The result was exactly what we were looking for.

We wanted to do something new and special for the backdrop behind the Bride and Groom. They made an adorable swing to hang at the end of the room so we needed something to surround that. Janessa loves baby's breath. I mean loves it! So Melody and I came up with this idea.

The flower girls wore a wreath made of baby's breath and wax flower. They were so sweet. And I love that all the boys were wearing suspenders with bow ties!

They enlarged pictures of Brent and Janessa and placed them all over the room. Then they tied them with teal ribbon. It was such a great way to fill those gym walls and incorporate the right color using the ribbon. On the chair back they tied burlap and ribbon alternating each chair. Then we added a little tuft of baby's breath in the bow.

This little love bird sign is probably my favorite. Melody came up with the saying since they had little birds all over the room. So cute!

Do you recognize those favors? Jasmine, Janessa's twin sister, came to Reana's shower back in February and loved them. They were the perfect color and everything. Jasmine was kind enough to come and help me make them. We made a pretty good team!

Janessa looked stunning in this beautiful lace dress. For the bridal bouquet we used white flowers with a touch of pink. She wanted in wrapped in lace and tied with jute.

For the bridesmaids we used blue and white flowers and went for a hand tied look.

You made it to the end of the post, I bet you thought it would never end. I can't say enough how fun this wedding was. Dallin and I have been talking and I think I'm going to start doing the flowers for  weddings. It would probably be best to wait until my kids are older to do them often, but until then I hope to do some here and there. Marti, the owner of the flower shop I first worked at, helped me make the boutineers for this wedding. I had never worked with stephanotis before so she offered to teach me. I invited her to the wedding to see my work and she liked my work. In fact she asked me to take over her shop while she goes on vacation and to help with holidays. So until I get to arrange another wedding I will be getting my flower fix helping her.

Wedding Preview

I mentioned in a previous post that I helped with a wedding. It was last weekend and it was so fun! Janessa, the bride, asked me to do her flowers. I've know Janessa since she was 8 so I was honored and so excited to help. Wow, that just made me feel old. Anyway as we started talking about flowers we just didn't stop. We starting talking about signs, burlap, lace, runners, tin cans, favors, and well more flowers. It was a lot of work, and I loved every minute of it! Here are a few pictures of the day before the wedding. My garage looked prettier than ever!

 photo IMG_4412_zpsfbf91ac8.jpg

Check out all those flowers. We are talking 25  five gallon buckets filled with flowers. There were more flowers than I knew what to do with.

 photo IMG_4413_zpsf51ce57f.jpg

Jennalise, the bride's sister, came over to help me for an hour to finish the little baby's breath pomanders. Those things take forever! But they were so cute.

Some of the arrangements ready to go.

And a couple more boxed up.

 photo IMG_4416_zps5645892e.jpg

Do you like my pomander stands? I had almost finished one and realized that I had to hang it on something to complete the bottom. Cue Benton's scooter and the garden claw.

And of course the tricycle.

More coming soon...

He's Had Another One

Benton now holds up an additional finger when you ask him how old he is. Holding up three fingers takes a little more work for those little hands than just the two he is used to. It might even take two hands for a while.

 photo IMG_4384_zpse5635dd8.jpg

Benton found a Hello Kitty lunch pail that I had filled with craft stuff and instantly had to use it for his toys. I consented and then went online to buy him a cars one. We filled it with some stickers and fun little things to do together.

 photo IMG_4400_zps7f4cd3a3.jpg

Along with his new lunch pail filled with activities, Benton also got new underwear. I know, I know not that exciting right? In fact I bought them last month and when I got home I thought I should just save them for his birthday. Well I'm glad I did because he loved them. I mean whats not to love about a Toy Story, Nemo, Monsters, and Cars 2 combo drawers pack?

 photo IMG_4410_zps923f419a.jpg

In case you where only paying attention to the airplanes that Dallin and Benton were putting together in that last picture, which was totally fun by the way, here is a close up...

 photo IMG_4411_zpsb7c12447.jpg

He just couldn't wait to put them on. Hum, I guess underwear isn't such a bad gift after all. We followed our little tradition of going someplace fun in the morning, this time was Pump It Up, a bounce house place. After that we also met up with Dallin for lunch. I'm not sure how long this tradition will last, but we will do it as long as we can. Happy 3rd birthday bud, it was a great day.

Finishing up our Week

We tried really hard to keep our week without Dallin busy, and it worked! We were up to something new every day. We had lots of play dates, outings, and we finished up the week starting to work on wedding stuff. More to come on the wedding later. Here are the last few photos from our daddy-less week.

Emmett had fun exploring our little pantry.

 photo IMG_4360_zpse558d185.jpg

Benton and Emmett enjoyed some saber fights.

 photo IMG_4363_zps8fa942f3.jpg

Benton helped Emmett learn how to walk. It was actually really awesome. Not only did Emmett love it because he got to walk but I think Benton really loved it too. He finally found something that he can do with Emmett that makes both of them happy. I can see the turning point coming soon when they can start playing together. At least I hope.

 photo IMG_4378_zps31121760.jpg

We also enjoyed a swim play date with my friend Jenny and her baby Julie. My kids love the water! They are instantly happy as soon as they get in and are content to play there all day if they could.

 photo IMG_1104_zps83dd37c0.jpg

It was Julie's first time swimming, and after a few minutes of getting used to it I think she really liked it too!

 photo IMG_1105_zpsb5116835.jpg

Benton is great at swimming with his vest on. He goes around the whole pool without help. I think swimming lessons are going to happen soon so he can learn how to swim without the vest too!

We really missed Dallin and were so glad to have him back. But we did find a way to have some fun even though he wasn't with us. Maybe if I ask nicely he will post a blog about his trip... or maybe it will just be me posting some of his pictures.

Aprons

My friend Julie has a daughter that is getting married this spring. I used to visit teach her daughter before she went off to college. She is one sweet girl! I am so excited for her to get married to such a great guy. Julie asked me to help her make some aprons for the ladies that will help serve the food. I was so excited to help and have the opportunity to learn something new. I've never made an apron before so it was a nice challenge. I made a mock one with some fabric I would never use. I was really glad I did because I learned a lot, what to do and more importantly what not to do! Julie came over a couple times to help me make them. It was so fun to chat while sewing. We finished them about two weeks ago so here is the end result.

 photo IMG_4347_zpsb4952046.jpg

Her wedding colors are navy blue, coral and yellow. I bet you couldn't tell that huh?

 photo IMG_4344_zps6dce4223.jpg

I can't wait to see them at the wedding.
